Burnley Leisure and Culture’s ‘Community & Wellbeing’ department proudly work in partnership with the ‘Burnley School Sport partnership’.
As part of this partnership, we deliver a number of different educational projects and festivals to all of the Primary schools in the Burnley and Padiham areas. Across all of these our aim remains the same, which is to help improve the children’s physical literacy skills and confidence, all whilst maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment.

Active Streets is a project funded through the BIG Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and it’s partners’ to provide community engagement sessions. The project aims to work alongside partner agencies in tackling anti-social behaviour within the hardest to reach communities to provide mentoring, training and volunteering opportunities within sport. Furthermore, delivering the ‘Fit n Fed’ holiday activity programmes.

Cycling
Cycling around Burnley is one of the most enjoyable ways to explore the borough. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, there are plenty of routes to choose from. Cycling offers numerous health benefits, including weight management, leg strength, cholesterol and blood pressure improvement, and positive effects on mental health. Our outdoor activities mainly take place around the three-acre boating lake in Thompson Park, close to Burnley town centre. We have a great range of boats to hire, all offering fantastic value for money for an enjoyable family activity. The Boathouse is open 12noon – 5pm (last boat on water at 4.15pm) every weekend and during school holidays from April to September. This is weather dependant please see our social networks for up to date opening information.
Alongside the public boat hire we can offer private hire of the lake and boats as well as delivering outdoor education opportunities for schools, groups and parties. We offer a wide range of bespoke activities which include Kayaking, Canoeing, and team building activities. We have fully qualified British Canoe Paddle Sport Instructors with a good deal of experience. We deliver our programmes, activities and courses to a wide range of community groups including Scouts, Brownies, Schools, SEN groups, colleges and workplaces.
