Our Commitment to Sustainability
Zero to Landfill
At Burnley Leisure & Culture, we have taken bold steps to achieve zero-to-landfill status. This means that none of our waste ends up in landfills, contributing to the reduction of environmental pollution and resource depletion. From the kitchen to the bars, every aspect of our operations is designed with sustainability in mind.
Waste Reduction Initiatives
We understand that waste prevention is key to achieving our environmental goals. Our dedicated team is continuously working on waste reduction initiatives, such as:
- Comprehensive Recycling: We diligently sort and recycle materials like glass, paper, cardboard, plastics, to ensure that as much waste as possible is diverted from landfills, we do this by working in partnership with Burnley Borough Commercial Waste Services. burnley.gov.uk/waste-recycling/commercialwaste/
- Composting: Organic waste from our kitchen is composted, providing nutrient-rich soil for local farms and gardens. Our coffee grounds are collected and can be picked up from any site to use for composting in gardens and allotments. www.olleco.co.uk
- Return Packaging: Where we have packaging, we cannot deal with locally we have arrangements with our suppliers to return this packaging to them. Our agreement with suppliers includes their commitment to zero-to-landfill. PDF Report here.
- Oil Recycling: Three of our sites currently produce waste cooking oil. This is collected by a company called Olleco and turned into fuel and biofuel. www.olleco.co.uk
