Nominations for the Burnley Community Sports Awards are now open and Burnley Leisure is calling for people to put forward their local sporting heroes.
There are ten categories in which people could win an accolade, including club and coach of the year, volunteer and young volunteer of the year, school of the year, rising star, health champion, community award and more.
All shortlisted nominees will be invited to a prestigious awards ceremony hosted by World Champion and Olympic silver medallist Roger Black. It is scheduled to take place on 21st July at Burnley Mechanics Theatre.
Nominations can be submitted at www.burnleyleisure.co.uk/sportsawards .
Paul Foster, head of leisure development at Burnley Leisure, said: “Burnley Community Sport Awards has helped recognise and share some amazing stories of achievements by individuals and teams from Burnley over many years.
“Each year there are new nominations from various schools, sport clubs and community groups across the town. And every year the panel is faced with the hard job of picking the finalists for each category from the staggering amount of nominations we receive.
“This proves to us that the quality of sport in Burnley is at a very high level and there are plenty of opportunities for people to get into sport. And this wouldn’t happen without the support of the many volunteers in sport locally, so let’s recognise this and celebrate community sport in Burnley again this year.”
Last year’s award winners have also been recognised on a county level at Lancashire Sports Awards with two volunteering awards and two highly commended for rising star and service to disability categories.
Burnley Community Sports Awards have been established to mark the contributions and achievements of local people and communities to sport, physical activity, and community development.
The awards pay tribute to those who show dedication at a range of levels or those who work tirelessly to support individuals or community clubs, for the love of the sport or their community.
Burnley Leisure is also offering local business and organisations the opportunity to raise their profile by sponsoring this event. For information how to sponsor an award, please contact Michelle Grimes on 01282 477167 or by email mgrimes@burnley.gov.uk.
