An exciting new sporting craze which combines football and golf, billed as the UK’s fastest growing sport, is teeing off in Burnley.
A new 18-hole FootGolf course is set to make its official debut on Saturday, 8th July, at Towneley and people are invited to get a kick out of the newest attraction.
The course, which was created as part of the 9-hole golf course, is managed by Burnley Leisure and accredited by UK FootGolf.
Neil Hutchinson, Burnley Leisure’s head of operations, said: “Burnley Leisure is delighted to be able to bring this exciting new sport to the area.
“We chose this activity for our new venture in 2017 as it is a family and community orientated accessible sport that needs no expensive equipment or large teams to play.
“Towneley golf course is the ideal venue where we have the ability to offer traditional golf courses alongside FootGolf in a beautiful parkland setting.
“We’re very much hoping to encourage people of all ages to come along a give this exciting new activity a shot. We’re also planning several exciting initiatives for the summer and establishing friendly and competitive events.”
FootGolf is played on a traditional golf course with players using their feet, rather than clubs, with the aim of getting a ball into the hole in the fewest number of shots.
And do not worry – the 5cm-diameter golf ball has been replaced with the size five football and a hole that is quite a bit larger than a normal target.
Players are welcome to bring along their own football if they wish, though footballs will be available for hire from the venue with a small deposit.
There are no formal dress requirements but players should be advised that football boots are not allowed so suitable trainers or Astroturf boots should be worn.
Prices start from £5 for children / £10 for adults for 18 hole and rounds take around two hours to complete.
