Packed programme of events launched for Burnley residents

A series of free events and workshops have been organised in Burnley to celebrate residents’ creativity and help them learn new skills.

The Mechanics at Home project, which has been running since 2014, has launched a new programme of activities including everything from community film screenings and printing workshops, to craft workshops and artist-led walks.

Residents are invited to download the brochure on www.mechanicsathome.co.uk and browse through a roster of activities taking place until the end of June.

Rachel Hawthorn, arts engagement officer at Burnley Leisure, said: “We’re delighted to announce our new programme offering lots of fun and free activities for residents and visitors of all ages.

“We’ve been working with residents and various groups in the community and they are all brilliantly talented and creative. They all gained new skills and took part in collaborative canvas drawing, painting furniture, designing mosaics, sewing handbags amongst other things we’ve been doing.

“There will be many exciting events happening in town next month and I’d like everyone to join us at the next upcoming event.”

Residents are also being invited to come and join the craft group every Thursday 1-3pm in the Basement Studio at Burnley Mechanics.

Relaxed and informal sessions are free and open to all and offer an opportunity to learn new things and meet new people.

Mechanics at Home is an arts project based at Burnley Mechanics which is giving people the opportunity to works with professionals artists, learn creative skills and make things happen in their communities.
