Two weeks to go to nominate sporting heroes in Burnley

There’s only a fortnight left to nominate someone deserving of a Burnley Community Sports Award.

The nomination deadline for this year’s awards closes on Friday, 28th April, so there’s little time left to ensure local sport heroes and heroines get the recognition they deserve.

The awards, hosted by Burnley Leisure, not only recognise the sporting triumphs but also salute the hard work and commitment from volunteers, coaches and supporters in clubs and schools across the borough.

There are 10 categories including adult volunteer of the year, coach of the year, community club of the year, lifetime achievement, primary and secondary schools of the year, rising star, and young volunteer of the year.

A trio of new awards was also introduced this year to celebrate a community project, an active workplace, and contribution to women’s participation in sport.

Nominations can be made by completing an online form on www.burnleyleisure.co.uk/sportsawards

Paul Foster, head of development at Burnley Leisure, said: “There are some extremely talented sportspeople in Burnley, and some exceptional clubs, coaches and volunteers who are dedicated to developing opportunities for local people to take part in sport.

“They all do fantastic work and I hope a lot of people take the opportunity to nominate them to give them the recognition they deserve.”

All shortlisted nominees will be invited to a prestigious awards ceremony hosted by Olympic champion Sally Gunnell OBE at Burnley Mechanics Theatre on 6th July.

Local businesses and organisations can also get involved in celebrating Burnley’s achievements in sport by sponsoring the event.
