New event provides stage for Burnley musicians

Local musicians will be given the chance to show off their talent at a brand new event in Burnley later this month.

The Live Lounge, which is a free event for residents to enjoy, takes place in the front room at Burnley Mechanics on Friday, 22nd July, from 7.15pm to 11.30pm.

It will be hosting Burnley’s best up and coming bands and musicians including Mel Sheard, Emily Herbert, IAMU.D, Bert Mathewson, MeLeon, the Swamp Donkeys and Critical Reaction.

The event has been organised by two talented apprentices at Burnley Leisure as part of a second stage of their gold Arts Award qualification.

Mathew Robinson and Angus Allan, who joined the leisure trust last year, have been working closely with the local music artists to make this event happen.

If it is hailed a success, the Live Lounge might become a regular fixture in the Mechanic’s calendar giving a more prominent platform for local artists.

Matt said: “This is first of hopefully many events that will take all that’s good about Burnley’s music scene and put it right in the spotlight.

“Through everyone’s collaborative effort, local musicians and bands are coming together for what will be an evening of purely local music at one of Burnley’s best established venues, Burnley Mechanics.

“As well as providing us with invaluable experience of organising events, the Live Lounge gives the newer upcoming musicians a chance to put themselves on a bigger platform and showcase their fantastic talent.”

The event is for people aged 16 and over, unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
