Howzat for local support to professional cricket stars

Professional cricket players have been bowled over by the offer of free membership to sports facilities.

Burnley Leisure has given Padiham Cricket Club stars Harry Lawson and Brady Barends access to a wide range of facilities on offer at Padiham and St Peter’s leisure centres.

Garry Stein, Padiham Leisure Centre manager, said: “Burnley Leisure is always keen to support local clubs and athletes in any way we can, so we are very happy to be able to help Harry and Brady.

“Our leisure facilities give them the opportunity to improve their fitness and strength, which will undoubtedly boost their performance on the field as well as help them integrate into the local community.”

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, batsman Harry Lawson is the club’s new overseas amateur, who came to these shores to gain experience in English conditions.

For South African bowler Brady it is the second season at Padiham Cricket Club. He had a great season last year taking 41 wickets, and scoring more than 300 runs.

Off the field, Brady has worked hard with the junior academy to push our youngsters to improve their game under his guidance.

Before coming to the UK, he has played over 100 first class, list A and Twenty20 matches.

Both players are now regular visitors to the Padiham Leisure Centre since the start of the new cricket season.
