High-flying clarets kick off the 2016 Burnley 10k

The countdown to the 2016 Burnley 10k has kicked off with a little help from Burnley FC’s players and manager.

Boss Sean Dyche, striker Andre Gray and goalkeeper Paul Robinson were among those gathered at Burnley FC’s training ground to officially launch the 2016 event, which is set to raise tens of thousands of pounds for good causes.

Sean Dyche said: “There is always a great buzz in the town on Burnley 10K day. I hope you’ll all pull on your trainers and support this great event and the many charities which will benefit.”

Entries for the event on Sunday 5th June are now open here.

Runners can take part in the event – one of the best-loved in the North West – for fun, a personal challenge or to raise funds for charity.

They are especially encouraged to support one of the event’s partner charities which Burnley Leisure is part of.

Runners will take on a new route for 2016. Starting in the picturesque Towneley Park, it takes runners along Todmorden Road, along Belvedere Road, in the shadow of Burnley Football Club, and into Thompson Park. It then returns for a grand finish at Towneley Park.

Paul Foster, of Burnley Leisure Trust, said: “Burnley’s leisure trust works to encourage active and healthy communities in the Burnley area.

“Fundraising helps support our projects, making a real difference in Burnley. These range from holiday programmes for local children, to community sport tackling anti-social behaviour, and volunteer development, giving young people new skills and experience.

“We were instrumental in bringing the Jane Tomlinson event to Burnley and are a proud partner of the Burnley 10K.”

The Burnley 10K is supported by the Asda Foundation, Motorpoint, 2BR, Burnley Express, Burnley Leisure Trust, Burnley Borough Council, Runner’s World, Aftershokz and BananaKick.

Those wishing to run for Burnley Leisure at the event, should contact Michelle Grimes on 01282 477167 or by emailing mgrimes@burnley.gov.uk.
