First Burnley Leisure 10k hailed a success

Runners and spectators gathered to the streets of Padiham over the weekend to support the premiere of the Burnley Leisure 10k.

The event has been hailed a success by its organisers with more than 100 runners participating in the first year.

Organised by Burnley Leisure, the 10k run is a new addition to the town’s sporting calendar created to promote Padiham and its beautiful countryside.

On the day, runners flocked to the streets for a multitude of different reasons, from beginners striving to achieve a personal challenge, to enthusiasts aiming for a new personal best.

First to cross the line was male runner Gary Shaw, who is also a member of staff at Burnley Leisure, completed the 10K run in 35 minutes and 20 seconds.

The ladies’ race Helen O’Rourke took first place. She completed the race in 47 minutes and 4 seconds.

The event organisers Burnley Leisure are delighted with how successful their first 10k run went and wished to thank the sponsor Option Hygiene as well as the volunteers and staff, who helped make the event a success.

Burnley Leisure’s assistant manager Garry Stein said: “To have over 100 runners and groups of spectators support the first Burnley Leisure 10k is fantastic, and we would like to thank everyone who contributed towards this great event. I am delighted with the event’s smooth running and hope that the Burnley Leisure 10K will go from strength to strength.”
