Catch a running bug with Burnley’s Couch to 5k

Pull on your trainers and join a group of like-minded people all aiming towards the same goal – gradually working up to running 5k or for half an hour in just nine weeks.

Organised by volunteers from Burnley Leisure’s Get in2 team and Burnley Athletic Club.  Check the Burnley C25K page for the next Couch to 5k programme.

The free programme will also offer additional weekly runs in Queens Park on Thursdays at 6.30pm and from the Riverside car park in Towneley Park every Saturday from 10am.

Run volunteers will lead each session and support people through the journey which involves a combination of walking and running.

Paul Foster, Burnley Leisure’s head of development, said: “If you’ve never run before or want to get back into being more active, then this is a free and easy way to get fitter and healthier.

“Running has so many benefits, not only does it improve your physical health, it also is good for your heart and lungs.

“It can also help with weight loss and importantly help boost confidence and self-belief, as well as acting as a great stress reliever.

“These programmes are perfect if you are new to running, the plan is all about starting slowly and building up gradually.

“Anyone can join in, you don’t need to be Mo Farah.”
