There’s more to a swimming pool than meets the eye.
It’s where you make and meet friends or enjoy the solitude of lane swimming.
It’s where you get fit, keep fit and work on your wellbeing.
It’s where you learn vital life-saving skills.
It’s where you manage a long-term health condition.
It’s where you can make a career.
A swimming pool is what YOU make it, regardless of age, ability, fitness or health condition.
Cat, our Aquatics Lead, sees a rewarding career, supporting people with their health and wellbeing.
Here’s her letter to swimming…
“Thank you for giving me a career which has brought me into a special and supportive community. A career where I have made friends for life, which is rewarding, allows me to support people with their health and wellbeing and which leaves me feeling valued and with a strong sense of purpose.
“My dream as a sporty child was to work in a sport and fitness environment but I never imagined it taking me down the path it has but I feel very lucky to have found a career which keeps me motivated and inspired.
“Thank you swimming for providing me with a life skill which not only keeps me fit and active but could one day save my life. Thank you for enabling me to enjoy the joys of water around the world, feeling confident enough to swim in the sea and lakes, when on holiday with friends and family. I am happiest when near water, the sound of the waves never failing to relax me.
“Thank you, swimming, I will always be your cheerleader!”

Letter from Kelly, one of our Swimming Teachers:
Dear Swimming,
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to improve and strengthen my swimming techniques.
Through my employment at BLC, I have learned skills that not only help keep me safe in the water but have also led me to a much healthier and happier life. Before becoming a swimming teacher, I struggled with my weight, had very little energy, and dealt with several medical issues, including joint pain and being on the path toward diabetes.
By learning better swimming techniques and exercising through a sport I have loved since childhood, I have been able to lose over three stone in weight. Swimming has also inspired me to enjoy exercising at the gym—something I never imagined I would do.
A huge part of my success has been the incredible support from my colleagues. Their encouragement, guidance, and belief in me gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward and reach my goals. Today, I can swim faster and further than I ever thought possible, and my fitness is better than ever.
As a swimming teacher, nothing brings me more joy than seeing others achieve things they once believed were impossible. Knowing that I’ve helped both children and adults learn such an important life skill and gain confidence in the water is truly rewarding.
Thank you, Swimming, you have changed my life forever, and for the better. 🏊♂️💙

Message from Assad and Sohail
Our Virtual Water Fitness classes have created a fantastic opportunity for customers to take part in instructor-led workouts early in the morning. The sessions are attracting a great mix of both males and females, all looking for a fun and engaging way to stay active in the water.
The classes have been particularly popular with customers who normally take part in other activities at the centre but wanted to try something different.
Assad shared:
“I usually swim and use the health suite, however since the health suite is under refurbishment I decided to give the virtual class a go. I love it and will continue to attend the classes.”
Sohail said:
“I usually go to the gym; however, I tried the virtual fitness and found the water-based activity is helping me so much more. It’s fun, engaging and enjoyable.”
