Ever fancied doing a triathlon but not sure where to start?
Come and try our new monthly Swim, Bike, Run sessions at Padiham Leisure Centre.
Burnley Leisure have teamed up with British Triathlon to make Swim Bike Run events accessible to all. Get involved in the monthly events that will be fun and non-competitive for all abilities.
The sessions are fun and welcoming, designed to help you get started, along with likeminded people, and build your confidence. Sessions will be non-competitive and not timed (though feel free to time yourself if you like); this is all about getting active, trying something new, and having fun!
A triathlon is a multi-discipline sport consisting of swimming, cycling, and running, and is a great sport to help keep you active. There is no pressure complete all three disciplines and all set distances; come along and complete what you feel like.
Sessions take place on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

Is Swim Bike Run for complete beginners?
Swim Bike Run is targeted at a very broad audience, sessions are none competitive and relaxed with the aim getting all abilities involved. The distances set are maximums only, so you can come along and try as much or as little as you like.
I have a disability/health condition, how can I let my Deliverer know about this?
Firstly, you should state this when signing up for and booking on to the Swim Bike Run activity. If you haven’t done this, you should contact the Deliverer prior to your Swim Bike Run activity to inform them, so they can make any reasonable adjustments and you should also make yourself known to them, when registering on the day of your activity.
I require additional support and have a carer/key worker, are they able to support me in participating and do they have to pay?
We want all Swim Bike Run participants to feel welcome and supported. Carers and Key Workers are welcome to support participants and are not required to pay – please just ensure that the Swim Bike Run Deliverer is aware of any additional support required or any Carers/Key Workers that will be supporting you prior to the activity taking place, and also introduce them when registering on the day of the activity.
Can I bring someone along with me just to watch? Can I bring my child along and they sit on the side?
Yes, but any children who are spectating must be supervised by a responsible adult who is not participating.
What do I need to bring to the activity?
Swimwear for your swim, a towel, and water to keep hydrated. If you require any medication such as an inhaler, please bring this along too.
The activity I have signed up to involves cycling, but I don’t have a bike. Can I still join the session?
Yes, the bike section takes place in the indoor cycling room, so no bike is needed. You can bring your own bike if you like.
Can I walk instead of run?
Absolutely, walking is allowed in all the Swim Bike Run activities; we want everyone to participate within their own abilities and limits.
Will there be changing facilities available at the venue?
Yes, Padiham Leisure Centre is fully equipped with changing facilities, including showers and lockers.
What if I need to take a break during the activity? Or I can’t complete the set distance?
We want everyone to exercise within their own abilities and limits. If you need to take a break for any reason at all, that’s absolutely fine. Please just inform your Swim Bike Run activity deliverer. If you aren’t able to complete the set distance, of course, this is absolutely fine, we want everyone to have an enjoyable experience and to build confidence whilst having fun.
What is the minimum age?
15+ years.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 15 minutes before start time. You will be greeted in reception by a member of staff.
How does the session work?
The first activity is the swim (just like it would be if you were taking part in a full triathlon). After your swim, you will get changed and head to the spin room to where you will complete your bike section. Once the cycle has been completed, you can choose between using a treadmill, if available, or heading to the greenway at the rear of the leisure centre. The greenway will be signed, and distance markers will be set every 0.25km. A turning point will be at 1.5km where you will head back to the leisure centre.
