at The Boathouse, Thompson Park
Try our colourful kayaks and spend some relaxing time on the Boating lake at Thompson Park, Burnley.
Our range of Fatyak kayaks are the latest design in sit-on-top kayak, which means you don’t need any previous experience to be able to use them.
The Boathouse and ice cream parlour is open weekends and school holidays from April to September. We also have traditional rowing boats for hire, as well as our popular Canadian canoes.
Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Private bookings for exclusive use of the lake and all our boats/kayaks can be arranged for corporate team building events, birthday parties, scout groups and any other group event by calling 01282 664400.

We open weekends only, however, during school holidays we open seven days a week from 11am-6pm at the café, and the first boat time is 11am and the last boat time is 5.30pm.
Prices are as follows for a 25 minute hire:
Single kayak - £4
Canadian canoe (3 people) - £5
Small row boat (4 people) - £6
Large row boat (5 people) - £6
Boats are not able to be booked in advance, simply turn up on the day and you will be allocated a time slot should a boat not be immediately available.
Bad weather:
During periods of bad weather and rain the Boathouse Cafe and Boating Lake will close, please check our Facebook page (insert link) for updates.
Car parking is available in the park via the Colne Road entrance. The cost is £2 all day, and tickets can be purchased using a cashless system on your phone only.

The single seater can be hired for just £2.00 for 30 minutes, and its unique stable lines ensures that children, sport and recreational kayakers will all have an enjoyable time.
Our 2 seater (£4.00 for 30 minutes) is designed to be used as a tandem kayak with the lighter paddler sitting in the front, however due to its flexible seating design it can be paddled solo by sitting in the centre position or used as a family 3 seater with room for a child in the centre position.
