The Healthy Movers programme, developed by children’s charity, the Youth Sport Trust, is being delivered by Burnley Leisure & Culture in local nurseries, with the aim of developing physical literacy in young children, and improving their school readiness and social mobility.
Healthy Movers improves children’s physical development and supports their social and emotional wellbeing to create healthy, happy children that make a positive development across the EYFS curriculum.
The programme helps and supports early years practitioners and families in recognising the progress children can make with their physical literacy, which supports their confidence, motivation, and resilience. The training focuses on how to develop the child through engaging, fun, and purposeful physical activities that every child can participate in, and enjoy at their own level.
The Healthy Movers approach has been effective at increasing children’s physical, emotional, and social development as a foundation for improving language, communication, and literacy.
The first five years of a child’s life are vital to their overall and future growth and development, so by supporting them at this early stage, we are able to provide them with a better chance of developing healthy habits early on, and enable them to benefit from an active lifestyle for the rest of their lives.
