Active Streets is a project funded through the BIG Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and its Partners to provide community engagement sessions.
The project aims to work alongside partner agencies in tackling anti-social behaviour within the hardest to reach communities to provide mentoring, training and volunteering opportunities within sport. Furthermore, delivering the ‘Fit n Fed’ holiday activity programmes.
It particularly targets young people who are NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) to help increase skills and confidence by providing routes into training, employment, and volunteering opportunities.
The team is managing contracts to deliver Gannow BIG Local organised sports and play activities within the area along with holiday activity programmes within the Borough.
The project has a dedicated team of coaches and volunteers who meet up monthly to discuss delivery methods, training and development opportunities.

Active Streets is delivering a variety of activities within the Community to help tackle issues around boredom, anti-social behaviour, and detached outreach work with young people. The project is currently delivering:
- Youth Engagement programme funded by Gannow BIG Local to deliver sports and physical activities to young people living in Gannow Ward area of the town.
- Youth Engagement – Saturday Night delivering organised football matches at Prairie Sports Village from 7pm to 9pm. The sessions are for young people aged 14+
Youth Café – Gannow BIG Local funded delivering sports and physical activities over the school holiday period along with providing pack lunches to young people.
Stoops Fit n Fed – working in Partnership with Chris Keene at West End Community Centre we deliver the schools holiday Fit n Fed Club from 10am – 12pm. Young people are referred to the Club through partner and school referrals for those families and children on free school meals. The fit n fed club has been running for over 4 years and is a great success for the local community.
Active Streets team deliver football sessions every Monday and Friday at 11am – 12.30pm at Prairie Sports Village. This session used to be Walking Football, however, the group are more advanced in playing competitive football matches.
Each session is £2.50 or free to members.

Volunteering is at the heart of Active Streets delivery. The contribution from volunteers is invaluable resource that helps effective delivery of our activity programmes. If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer to develop your personal skills, meet new people and have fun please complete a Registration Form on the link provided;
Young Gannow Big Local – This group has been set-up for young people living in Gannow Ward area to discuss what they want to see being delivered and any new projects and events to plan in the area. A great opportunity for young people to develop skills such as working as a team, communication skills, team building, planning and delivery.
Active Streets are now delivering a new ‘Dambuster Project’ aimed at young people aged between 12 to 16 years old. Join us for a wide range of sports and activities over the Easter Holidays.

I’ve been a member at St Peters for over 5 years and over that time I’ve attended many classes run by Rebecca and Karly. The classes are great with a friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable and approachable staff. It’s a real family atmosphere at St Peters and although there are lots of other gyms available locally I wouldn’t move as I would miss the teaching staff and the great vibe.

I have been a member of Padiham Leisure Centre for the past 18 months and want to say how great the gym, activity studio and indoor cycling classes are. The staff, in particular Karly, Rebecca and Sarah, are very welcoming, knowledgeable and hardworking, and make the classes rewarding and fun (!).

I was encouraged to join the running club. Don’t ask me how I was persuaded, as I couldn’t even run to the top of the street! But I did, and with lots of encouragement, motivation and being believed that “I could do it” from the leisure centre staff, I have completed various 5k and 10k runs, with 3 half marathons under my belt, too.

Equipment in the gym is everything you need right down to foam rollers/resistant bands etc. There are always staff members present who will help if needs be. Both gyms have plenty of weights so don’t have to wait for others to finish delaying your own routine..

I joined St. Peter’s this year but I was a member some years ago. Anyway this year I’ve been doing BodyCombat Monday’s and Fridays and synrgy on a Wednesday I’ve also tried the other classes as and when I get a chance. I love the instructors they are all really friendly and encouraging…
The Instructors are knowledgeable, friendly and informative as well as being encouraging when participating in the many varied classes. I’ve been a member at Padiham leisure for the past 4 years, attending classes and gym sessions, including PT sessions. The staff are extremely friendly and always happy to help and the new gym facilities are excellent. The classes are fun, and trainers really motivate you. I am so much fitter than I have ever been.

I joined Padiham leisure centre about 2 years ago, primarily in a bid to lose some weight, I go on a regular basis taking 2/3 classes per week and I use the pool to swim. I really enjoy it, the instructors are great, and the general staff are just so friendly, I recommend it to everyone
I became a member in May 2011 after deciding to quit smoking. I remember my first class (BodyCombat) and feeling rather nervous, as I didn’t know anyone. The instructor made me feel extremely welcome, the class was great, and needless to say, I still go to the classes and I’ve made lots of new friends.

I’ve been a member of St Peter’s and Padiham Leisure for a good number of years and do classes a few times a week; I enjoy the BodyCombat class and indoor cycling class. All the instructors are helpful friendly and professional full of enthusiasm doing their classes with a warm friendly approach that makes you feel you can achieve your goals and motivate you whilst still making it fun.
I attend BodyBalance twice a week and the classes are led by Rebecca and Karly. This class is perfect for what I need….toning, stretching, flexibility to music. I like the fact that the routine changes every three months. Both teachers are good at explaining and demonstrating new moves and are always happy to spend time after the class answering any queries…
