The #OutdoorTown website: What’s on offer in 2025

As 2025 begins, what better way than to refresh our memories about Burnley’s fantastic #OutdoorTown provision? For those who aren’t already aware of what #OutdoorTown is, it’s all about highlighting our fantastic outdoor spaces here in Burnley and how we can utilise them to tap into physical activity and forge long-lasting connections within our community.

A New Year means new opportunities, and when it comes to #OutdoorTown, there’s plenty of that on offer! You may be wondering where to get started, and that’s where our #OutdoorTown website comes in. Our website is a hub for all things outdoors in Burnley, and here you’ll find a variety of activities to do. The first way to do this is to head to the events calendar:

Events

Here you’ll find many ways to combat the post-Christmas lull, one of which involves dusting off your running shoes for Burnley’s Parkrun. This is a free event that takes place every Saturday at Towneley Park at 9:00 AM. All you have to do is register, and you can either walk, wheel, or volunteer around the course. So go check it out!

Cycling, Running, and Walking

Next up on the website is a section dedicated to cycling, riding, running, and walking. Burnley boasts an abundance of fantastic locations for these activities.

All routes are accessible by public transport, with suitable routes for wheelchair users. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful outdoor spaces. Explore our parks, cycle along the canal, and get active! Share your adventures on social media with #OutdoorTown. Find out more below:

Tree Planting

For those who are green-fingered and love their gardening, there’s an entire section on the website dedicated to tree planting. This section encourages people to get out there and preserve our natural green spaces within the area, and also aims to bring people together within the community in the process. You can find out more about the volunteer project Trees for Burnley and how to get involved with their tree planting days here:

Places and Spaces

The places and spaces section features everything you need to know about some of our facilities, whether it’s golf, football, a bite to eat at the Prairie Sports Village, or a Sunday stroll around Gawthorpe Hall. Filling your days is not a problem!

Finding activities that you like can sometimes be a challenge, but this area of the website will show you that there’s plenty of fun to be had outdoors, from park play to park yoga and couch to 5K. Deciding what to get up to will become a thing of the past!
