Earlier this year, we received a lovely message from one of our members who visited the gym at Padiham Leisure Centre over the Christmas period. You can read their full message below.
“I hope this message finds you well. My name is Fiona Moore. Originally from Yorkshire, I now live in New Zealand, but my family is based in Padiham. My 19-year-old son, Louie Miller, and I visited over the holiday period, staying with family from December 2024 to January 2025.
“Health and well-being are very important to us – especially for Louie, who is a firefighter and needs to maintain his fitness. We decided to join BLC upon our arrival, and Padiham quickly became a highlight of our trip. We used the gym, swimming pool, steam room, and sauna almost every day – sometimes even twice a day!
“From the moment we were shown around, we were met with warmth and friendliness from the staff. I initially had some reservations about the mixed changing areas, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn’t an issue at all. It became clear very quickly that the gym is more than just a fitness facility – it’s a true hub for the local community. The welcoming atmosphere, diversity of members, and strong sense of belonging created by the staff are truly commendable.
“I was particularly impressed by the respectful environment. As a woman, I sometimes feel uncomfortable in certain gym spaces, but I never once had an issue in the sauna or any other area – a stark contrast to my experience in New Zealand. The variety of people using the gym was also fantastic – parents, grandparents, children, men on lunch breaks, pensioners – everyone felt included and at ease.
“We want to sincerely thank and acknowledge the entire team for their dedication and hard work. Their efforts in fostering such a positive and inclusive space do not go unnoticed. People are often quick to complain but not as quick to share appreciation, and I wanted to make sure they receive the recognition they deserve.
“We enjoyed our experience so much that we’re even trying to convince my 80-year-old mum to join! I’m already looking forward to returning later this year and using the facilities again.
“Until then, please pass on our gratitude to your wonderful team. Wishing you all continued success!”
Fiona’s experience at Padiham is a testament to the power of community-focused fitness spaces. It’s not just about the equipment or facilities, it’s about the people, the atmosphere, and the sense of belonging that keeps our members coming back.
We want to thank Fiona for her very kind words, and extend our thanks to the team at Padiham Leisure Centre who made Fiona’s time at the gym special, like they do for every single member.
Fiona’s story highlights how a well-run gym and leisure facilities can cater to all ages and backgrounds, making health and wellness accessible to everyone. From a dedicated firefighter maintaining peak fitness to a grandmother considering joining for the first time, Padiham Leisure Centre proves that a welcoming environment can make all the difference.
It’s easy to take positive experiences for granted, but Fiona’s words serve as an important reminder to celebrate the people and places that make a real impact. Her heartfelt appreciation for the staff and community spirit at Padiham is something we can all learn from.
Whether you’re a seasoned gym-goer or just starting out, a supportive and inclusive space can transform your fitness journey. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even inspire a loved one, just like Fiona is encouraging her 80-year-old mum!
