water Wellbeing
Our Water Wellbeing Programme offers a range of ways to enjoy the pool, whether through open sessions, group activities, or referral-based programmes.

Stay active in our pools to support your health
Burnley Leisure and Culture are a proud partner of Swim England’s Water Wellbeing Programme, with St Peters Leisure Centre receiving their Water Wellbeing accreditation in November 2025, recognising the offer provided to support people living with long term health conditions to stay active on our pools.
Our Water Wellbeing Programme offers a range of ways to enjoy the pool, whether through open sessions, group activities, or referral-based programmes.
Anyone:
- Living with joint and muscle pain either long term or due to an injury and going through rehabilitation
- Living with neurological conditions such as MS, Parkinsons or Dementia
- Living with mobility issues or who may be susceptible to falling
- Who may struggle with exercising on land due to the higher impact
Who is looking for a gentle first step back to exercise – the buoyancy of the water makes movement easier and takes pressure off the joints.
Include:
- Aqua Relax
- Good Boost
- Aqua Circuit
- Adult swimming lessons
- SEND swimming lessons
People can self-refer or be referred by a health professional.
This can be done through the online form or by calling the Health Programmes Team on 01282 477134

Yes. If interested you can self-refer by completing the online form or calling the Health Programme team on 01282 477134
Our sessions vary, but you don’t have to be a strong swimmer to participate in the Water Wellbeing sessions or Good Boost sessions. These take place in shallower water and involve aquatic exercise as opposed to swimming.
If attending an open pool session and accessing deeper water, then the ability to swim would be necessary. If not a confident swimmer, then we advise you to remain behind the non-swimmers’ line highlighted poolside.
Make a splash with our other swimming activities
