Our wellbeing services offer friendly support, practical advice, and enjoyable activities designed to improve physical and mental health for all ages. Whether you want to move more, eat better, recover from an injury, or simply connect with others, we provide inclusive opportunities to make positive lifestyle changes in a welcoming setting.  We offer specialist programmes designed for individuals managing health conditions, providing tailored support to help you make positive strides toward a healthier lifestyle. Burnley is part of East Lancashire’s Active Wellbeing Service covering Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

Our Active Wellbeing Programme is a flexible 12-week course designed to help you become more active and improve your health. We offer a range of exercise options to suit different needs, including:

  • Chair-based exercise
  • Group exercise classes
  • Water-based activities
  • Gym sessions
  • Power-assisted gym equipment

Each activity or session costs £3.50 during your 12-week programme, or you can choose a one-off payment of £45 for unlimited access throughout the programme.

Who can join?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be aged 16 or over
  • Be currently inactive
  • Have one or more long-term health conditions, such as:
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Diabetes (Type 1 & 2)
  • Cancer
  • Musculoskeletal and degenerative conditions
  • Mental health conditions

Take control of your wellbeing with our tailored programmes designed to support both body and mind. Our Back Builders classes help to ease back pain and improve posture, while Strength and Balance sessions help reduce the risk of falls and improve stability. Water Wellbeing offers gentle, joint-friendly exercise in the pool to support musculoskeletal health. Our Healthy Mind and Body programme combines physical activity with mindfulness techniques to support mental wellbeing. Whatever your goal, we’re here to help you feel stronger, more balanced, and healthier every day.

The Healthy Weight Programme is a 12-week course designed for anyone who wants to lose weight and better understand the food they eat, while developing a healthier relationship with it.

Sessions are delivered by trained advisors who will support you in focusing on food choices, portion sizes, and overall lifestyle habits. These sessions take place in person and are supported by online resources to give you the best chance of achieving your goals.

As part of the programme, you’ll have the option to be weighed weekly to help track your progress. You’ll also have access to BLC’s Boditrax equipment, which provides detailed body composition analysis and tracks your progress over time. Boditrax uses clear, easy-to-understand visuals, making it simple to interpret your data and stay motivated.

The Healthy Hearts Programme is a 12-week course designed for individuals who have recently experienced a heart attack or undergone heart surgery. It continues on from the hospital Phase 3 rehabilitation programme and provides a structured approach to progressive exercise and health education.

Exercise options include low-level group activity, supervised gym sessions, and group health education. The cost of the programme is £40 for the full 12 weeks.

This programme is available by referral only from a Cardiac Nurse or health professional. Please speak to your GP or healthcare professional to discuss a referral.

Health Condition Health Coaching

Our Health and Wellbeing Coaches are here to support you in making positive changes to improve your health and quality of life. If you have a lung or breathing condition, they can work with you to set personal goals and find practical ways to help you feel better and stay well. Their aim is to help you build healthy habits that make a lasting difference to your wellbeing.

Coaches, will support pathways such as smoking cessation and contribute to key priorities including weight management, falls prevention, and respiratory health. They provide personalised support to help set goals, change behaviours, and improve overall health and wellbeing.

(previously PASTA – Play and Skills at Teatime Activities)

This programme is designed for children and families living in Burnley and Padiham, focusing on children aged 5 to 10 years. Children must attend with a parent, carer, or guardian, and siblings are welcome.

Programmes take place at primary schools and community venues across the borough on a rotating basis. Families who are referred will be offered a place on the next suitable programme.

Each session includes a basic family cookery lesson, fun games and activities to enjoy together, and the opportunity to sit down and eat as a family at the end of the session.

Sessions last 90 minutes and run over 6 weeks during term time.
