Preparations are well underway for this year’s Burnley Community Sports Awards, which is set to be an incredible night of celebration.
Burnley Leisure this year received more than 100 applications, all of which highlighted the exceptional work and achievements of local athletes, sports clubs, volunteers, schools, and coaches across the borough of Burnley.
The top nominations from each category have been invited to the prestigious prize-giving ceremony on Thursday, 21st July, at Burnley Mechanics.
The night will be hosted by former World Champion and Olympic silver medallist Roger Black.
Paul Foster, head of Burnley Leisure development, said: “The awards showcase the exceptional talent and hard work of athletes and the dedication of sports clubs, volunteers and coaches across the borough. I congratulate all of those who have been shortlisted and I’m looking forward to seeing them at the Burnley Community Sports Awards.”
The awards are being sponsored by Burnley Rounders Club, Ringstones, the Calico Group’s Girls Up & Active project, Burnley Leisure Trust, KM Accountants, Burnley College Elite Athlete Programme, and Surridge Sport.
Michelle Grimes, events and funding officer with Burnley Leisure, said: “Sport and physical activity plays a major part in our health and wellbeing. These awards aim to honour those who have achieved so much, as well as those who give their time tirelessly and enthusiastically to promote and support the growth of sport in Burnley.
“I’d like to thank all our sponsors who have thrown their weight behind the event in support of local sports.”
