Fun for young at national Playday event in Burnley

Families across Burnley are being invited to celebrate national Playday 2015 at Scott Park on Wednesday, 5th August.

The free event, which runs from 1pm to 4pm, will see the park transformed into a series of interactive play areas aimed at children aged up to 14.

For the younger visitors there will be an under 5s’ area featuring a variety of activities including a soft pay, arts and crafts and storytelling – all provided by Action for Children.

And for the more adventurous, attractions include an Xplorer orienteering challenge, urban boxing ring, outdoor fitness equipment sessions and a host of sport and play activities.

Children will also be able to practice their circus skills with stilts, spinning plates, juggling and unicycles in a free play area.

Refreshment stalls will also be up during the event.

Michelle Grimes, events and funding officer at Burnley Leisure, said: “Once again Burnley is hosting a fantastic day of play and celebration for children and young people and their families.

“This event unites local communities and we are pleased to see different organisations coming together to help us deliver a day of wonderful play experiences for children and young people in Burnley.”

The Playday event has been organised by Burnley Leisure’s Get in2 team in partnership with Burnley Council, Action for Children and Burnley Play Partnership.

On Playday thousands of children and their families get out to play at hundreds of community events across the UK. As well as a celebration of children’s right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives.
