The town’s charitable leisure trust is appealing for members of the public to dig out their running kits and join ‘Team Leisure’ at this year’s Burnley 10k.
Burnley Leisure, which promotes active and healthy communities and develops sport and play opportunities across the borough, is looking for runners to join its team at the event taking place on 5th June.
The leisure trust is one of the six partner charities for this year’s event, which is being organised by Run for All in support of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
Paul Foster, head of development at Burnley Leisure, said: “We’re excited to be one of the partner charities for this year’s event and welcome people of all abilities to join our team.
“We work with a wide range of partners in the local community to promote active and healthy lifestyles in the Burnley area. Our recent Girls Up and Active project in partnership with the Calico Group is a good example of the work we do. The project, which offers local women opportunities to get involved in sports, has been a huge success engaging more than 500 women who did very little exercise before coming to the sessions.
“By joining our team you will enable us to provide more sport activities encouraging not only women, but also children and older residents who need opportunities to exercise, get out of the house, meet new people and stay fit.
“We welcome anyone who wishes to join ‘Team Leisure’ to run the new- look Burnley 10k with us
“You will be supporting a local charitable trust that makes a huge difference to the communities in Padiham and Burnley. All runners will receive a free running t-shirt and a great deal of training support from our instructors including a free leisure pass.”
The trust has charity places available for just £20 and asks runners to raise sponsorship money if possible to contribute to the charity.
