Burnley Leisure Health Week proves to be a success

Burnley Leisure’s Health Week has been hailed a huge success after more than 500 people took part in a range of exciting activities to celebrate the event from 7th -12th September.

The health week has managed to create a real buzz in Burnley, so leisure bosses have decided to make the event an annual fixture.

The week offered free swimming, health MOTs, fitness classes and a range of membership deals – all encouraging people to get active, become healthier and try something new.

Paul Foster, Burnley Leisure’s head of development, said: “Burnley Leisure Health Week was a great success and I’m delighted to see positive outcomes from the people who attended the health week.

“This is the first health week the leisure trust has organised, with a wide range of fun activities and sessions packed into one dedicated Health Week. There was something going on for people of all ages and abilities, and our team was on hand to give advice to people wanting to become healthier and more active.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to our partners, volunteers and staff for helping us deliver the week and we’re looking forward to staging one next year.”

To celebrate the brand new website Burnley Leisure was also running an online competition with a chance to win a weekend break away, which was scooped by lucky winner Julia Smith.

During National Fitness Day, which coincided with the health week, residents joined forces with the leisure team and completed a 12-hour cycle challenge. Together they clocked an impressive distance of 178.4 miles – a journey from Burnley to Northampton.

Town centre shoppers also had an opportunity to break into a sweat and join in some fitness classes, including step, group power, spinning and Metafit, which were all moved to the town centre especially for National Fitness Day.
